About Us

The Shark 102.3 Rocks

The Shark 102.3 streams just the right mix of pop and rock hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and some early 90's.

Digital Presence

The Shark 102.3  is  a 3,500 watt FM radio station based in Tippah County with a listening radius that covers Corinth, New Albany,  Tupelo, Booneville, Iuka, Ashland and Baldwyn.   We are also available on your desktop computer by simply clicking on the listen live button.  We are available on your mobile device by downloading our free app.  We have a very active Facebook page and we are linked to JC Media's Twitter, Instagram,  and YouTube pages.

The History of Our Station

102.3 began its life as a classic country station called Kudzu.  In 2008, Kudzu moved up the dial to 104.9 and 102.3 was reinvented as a Classic Hits station by then owners Scott and Joan Peters.  When JC Media, LLC owners, Chris and Melinda Marsalis purchased the station in April of 2019, they tweaked the live stream just a bit from Classic Hits to Classic Hits-Rock. This set The Shark apart from other adult contemporary stations and gave it an edgier feel that our listeners love.  The format is freshened by daily features, themed weekends, specialty programs & promotions and a world-class airstaff.

    Whip: 5a - 9a

    Maria Danza: 9a - 2p

    Maria Danza: 9a - 2p

Whip's first taste of radio was when he was 9, calling into Denver morning shows and winning sports trivia contests. The DJs hated him, and he's pretty sure he's the reason stations started a “must be at least 12 to win” rule. He got his start at his college's station. After flunking, er, dropping out, he found a DJ job in Santa Fe and has been chasing it ever since.

    Maria Danza: 9a - 2p

    Maria Danza: 9a - 2p

Maria was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and then relocated to Dallas, where she graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in Radio, TV, and Film.  Her love of music, and lack of ability to sing, dance or play instruments led her to radio, where she’s been for almost 30 years!

    joel: 2p - 7p

    Maria Danza: 9a - 2p

    Jay Philpott: 7p - Midnight

Joel grew up outside Allentown Pennsylvania and got his start behind the mic at just 17.  There were only two things Joel was interested in growing up: Music and talking! What would he be doing if he wasn’t on the radio? Who knows! Joel’s extensive vinyl collection includes every Beatles, Talking Heads, and Steely Dan album…and almost every Pink Floyd album. Where’s the Syd Barret stuff, Joel?! Gotta work on that! When he’s not on the radio or air drumming, Joel can be found at home in his apartment, probably receiving a noise complaint because of all that loud music!

    Jay Philpott: 7p - Midnight

    Jay Philpott: 7p - Midnight

Jay lives by his love of music and radio and has truly lived the “town to town, up and down the dial” life of a radio/gypsy/rocker.  He got his start in radio at the age of 18 and has never looked back.  Jay has worked in many genres of music and has scored a lot of backstage moments and interviews with some of the greatest classic rockers ever:  Van Halen, Don Henley, Pete Townsend, Rush, Robert Plant, Aerosmith, and many more.

    Joe Jacobs: Midnight - 5a

    Jay Philpott: 7p - Midnight

    Joe Jacobs: Midnight - 5a

As a kid, Joe fell in love with radio. He’d slowly scan the dial at night trying to find a signal from some far-off place, and then anxiously try to figure out what city the station was broadcasting from before the static inevitably took over. For more than half of his life, Big Joe has felt blessed to be on this side of the mic. When he’s not working, he’s usually helping others, bingeing another series, or playing bass guitar. Joe loves spending time with his wife and daughters, and his rescue dogs Duke and Marty.
